Knives, knives and more knives

In years gone by a young country boy, or girl for that matter, would not want to be caught without a knife. A good knife was not viewed as a weapon in the same sense that weapons are thought of today. Knives were part of survival and entertainment.

A game of Mumbley Peg at recess was not unusual, neither was it out of the ordinary for a knife to be needed in a variety of situations from picking a stone out of a horses hoof, carving initials into a tree or cutting the fruit or beef jerky packed in the paper sack for lunch. In fact, carrying a knife has been a very important part of human activity for most of human history. An article from the Knife Hub details information about the history of knives and their uses. In fact, this article states that the knife is, “is one of the most important pieces of technology that our species has ever produced.”

That’s amazing when you think about it. The extremely interesting article takes the reader from a description of the earliest knives, made of stone, to the types of knives and even the laws governing the possession of knives. After reading the article it’s easy to see how this is one of the most important pieces of equipment anyone would want in their “go-bag”. With so many different varieties to choose from, how do you choose which one to buy?
